California Bowling Writers

Tina Martin - Treasurer

Tina Martin of Novato bowled her first league in a GAA (Girls Athletic Association) program in high school in Richmond, CA. She is married to Jim and they have two sons.

Tina was easy prey for PTA, Scouts and youth bowling programs and an active volunteer and board member in the youth bowling association taking kids to a variety of tournaments each year. Tina finally found herself employed at Nave Lanes in Novato as their Marketing and Promotions person. In the process, she started a monthly newsletter, "Nave Lanes News", writing, editing, producing and distributing it "by hand" she says, to all bowlers.

In 1988 she joined the Marin County WBA Board and eventually served as president for four years. She continues to serve as a Director on the new MC-USBC Board and says she has always promoted working as a "Team."

Nave Lanes closed in 1999, and she went to work for Country Club Bowl in San Rafael as their League Coordinator and Marketing & Promotions person and still does this job which includes the newsletter "Country Club News" and all of the center publicity for the local newspaper as well.

She says her one claim to fame is winner of the "C" Division in the State BVL in 2000. But the fact that she has 17 years of perfect attendance in her Wednesday morning bowling league sounds like a close 2nd. In fact, she has missed only twice in the last five years in her current league - twice in 24 years! Tina was recently inducted into the Marin Co. WBA Hall of Fame and a Life Member for 2005.

She proudly claims the 25-Year CWBA Participation Award and still coordinates teams to the championship tournament each year. She has also helped Marin achieve the most teams by percentage of membership. She has been a league secretary for 25+ years and is a charter member of CBW and a member of the National Women Bowling Writers.

Along the way she has found time to be a certified bowling coach for YABA, CWBA and USA Bowling Level II. She loves working with the little ones.
