Jane Bailey Joins CBW

Jane Bailey started bowling in Rochester, New York and was the league secretary for eight years. The family move to San Mateo in 1972 didn’t interrupt her bowling which she has continued to do for 38 years. She was appointed to the Peninsula WBA board of directors in 1978 and served in all capacities from Director to President and even served as Association Secretary.

In 2005 Jane was inducted into the Peninsula Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. In 2008, she was honored with Director Emeritus for dedication and contributions to bowling, the association, and the members by the Peninsula USBC.

Jane was a charter member of the California Bowling Writers in 1998 and will now serve as Director #1 North.

In 1972 Jane’s husband Ralph came home with a wonderful idea – he wanted to buy an airplane. He took her to the hanger to look at it and she was stunned to see it in pieces – hull on the floor, wings on the back wall, and the rest in boxes and cans. After some thought, she felt it would be great mental therapy for him and home he went to start putting it together. After flying for several months, Jane “soloed” and received her license in 1976. It took Ralph another year to get his and Jane says, “I have been the Pilot-in-command for 34 years!” She has flown her Cherokee across the country to Maine, Florida, the Bahamas, the San Juan Islands and many states in the U.S logging over 2900 hours as PIC (pilot-in-command.)

Jane has three children – Richard, Darren and Rosemary and five grandchildren. She says all of her wonderful “treasures” started flying in her lap when they were about 18 months old.
