Happy Fall!

CBW PHONE CARD DRIVE NOW UNDERWAY

With Veteran’s Day just being honored, it brings to mind our young men and women currently serving in the military.

California Bowling Writers again is conducting a Phone Card Drive this year for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is our fifth year for this charity. Our Phone Card Drive is currently underway and will be taking donations through December 31, 2008. That will give us enough time to purchase the AT&T phone cards and get them to the troops for Valentine’s Day, 2009. We will again be working with our Armed Services Marine Corps. contact located at Twenty-Nine Palms, CA.

With the tough economy this holiday season, we hope that you can get together with your league bowlers and come up with a donation for this year’s CBW Phone Card Drive. Any amount is appreciated! Send your donations to: Tina Martin – CBW Treasurer, 57 Shields Lane, Novato, CA 94947-3877. Make checks payable to “CBW”.

PROFILE & GOLDEN QUILL WRITING DEADLINE IS FEB. 15, 2009

And, before the holidays are completely upon us, please remember that both our writing competitions are now in full swing also. We urge all members to enter one if not both.

The Profile Award is a story you write about an individual you know through bowling. It could be a manager at your center, a teammate, a coach, a new bowler in your league….the possibilities are endless. Length of story is not less than 300 words and not more than 1500 words. You need to be an active member of CBW and write this story between Jan. 1, 2008 and Feb. 15 of 2009.

The Golden Quill competition’s subject for 2008 is “The Changing Face of Bowling” and I know a lot of people have their own personal opinions on this subject, so why not take a few minutes and write those opinions down? Length of this story must be between 300 and 750 words and this story must also be written by an active member of CBW and written between Jan. 1, 2008 and Feb. 15, 2009.

Entry forms are here on our CBW website for further information. And if you are looking for an outlet to get your story published before the Feb. 15th deadline, look no further. Just submit your story to our website and we would be more than happy to post it for you! Hope you and yours have a safe and happy holiday season! I will be writing a recap of the CBW Interim Meeting that took place in Reno October 11-12 in conjunction with the Fall Bowling Classic Trade Show in my next communication. But for now, just wanted to let you know what is currently happening with CBW and also to remind you about writing. We are always looking for articles, so see what you can come up with!
